7 Steps to Replace Your Job With This Work From Home Postcard Business
Mitchell TeboFebruary 25, 202620:08
A step-by-step plan for running a 9x12 postcard business next to a full-time job, from picking a town and pricing slots to outreach, printing, and renewals.
Key takeaways
- Six $500 slots cover the All Inclusive print and postage cost, so every slot after the sixth is profit, which makes 16 feel less intimidating.
- Build a founders list of 40 to 60 local businesses from Google Maps, favoring higher-ticket industries like roofers, dentists, and realtors.
- Fit outreach around a job: email and message in the mornings and evenings, call at lunch or after 5 PM, and visit businesses on Saturday mornings.
- Create urgency with category exclusivity and take full payment upfront, since chasing money when the card is ready to print is no fun.
- After the card mails, gather feedback and give each advertiser first priority on the next card, holding their slot for only about a week.

If you want a realistic shot at making a $5,000 a month side income without selling cheap Chinese products or becoming a [music] full-time content creator, then you need to watch this video. And it might be one of the most important videos you watch this year because I'm going to walk you through step by [music] step exactly how you can build a simple local side hustle in your town. And most importantly, you can run this alongside your 9 to5 because most of us can't afford to quit and take that [music] risk. And not to mention, it actually has the potential to eventually replace your paycheck one [music] day, as long as you don't make more than $15,000 a month. If you do, then stick with your job.
My first month doing this, I made $5,000. And that's pure profit. And my second month, I made $10,000. [music] And in my third month doing this, I made $15,000. Now, don't get me wrong, it was a total grind, but you'll understand why my scaling process was so smooth once you understand how the process works.
I can almost guarantee you've never heard of this before because it's a blue ocean. This is not Amazon selling. It's not drop shipping. It's not another start a complex agency and manage 10 different clients at once. And I'm also not going to give you the false promise that this is some sort of passive income stream because it's not.
And really nothing is. Anybody who tells you that is just trying to sell you a lie. That being said, it's a super simple model. Not easy, but simple, which is why I love it so much, and you can do it right in your little local town. And it involves all of the small businesses around you.
It's called the 9x12 method. [music] And you've probably never heard of that before or seen one of these postcards. So, let me explain it in plain English for you. The 9x12 postcard method is a local business where you help local businesses split the cost of one large 9x12 in shared mailer. You mail the card to 5,000 homes in your specific area, and you keep the difference between what you charge the businesses and what you actually pay to print and mail the cards.
For reference, [music] selling just one of these cards out at my recommended prices and fulfilling it totally leaves you with $5,000 in profit every single time you do it. Clean and simple. And then you can repeat it every single month. And it gets easier every time you do it. But more on that later.
You're not running Facebook ads. You're not building websites. But most importantly, you are not sucking up to anybody. [music] You work for yourself cuz that's what we want, right? Your job is quite simply to organize attention in your town.
Bring together a group of local businesses that want more customers. put them on one large shared postcard and mail [music] it off. And the best part is you don't have to handle the mailing. You let the printing and the mailing company handle it for you. So, just to break down the math so you can see how this actually adds up to $5,000.
You have 16 ad slots on the card. And I typically recommend charging $500 for each ad slot. That means each business pays you $500. 16 * 500 that is $8,000 collected upfront in your pocket. And yes, you do collect the money upfront.
So now you have cash in pocket before you had to pay for anything at all. This is why I love it better than most businesses. You don't have to pay for supply. You don't have to pay for any software. You don't have to pay for anything before you start.
Now to print and mail that card to 5,000 homes in your town is going to cost you around $2,900 if you go with us. And we are like some of the cheapest printing in the United States for 9x12s. [music] But definitely feel free to shop around. But $8,000 minus $2,900 that leaves you with $5,100 [music] profit. So I'm sorry I lied.
It's not 5,000, it's 5,100. Now, I want to be super clear to you. That is not a guarantee. That's just an example. And it's going to require you to go out and talk to businesses and sell these ad slots at full price.
But this is why I call it one of the most powerful side hustle models right now because you sell first and you fulfill last. So, you're not fronting thousands of dollars up front just hoping something works. And you can do this on the weekends and during your lunch breaks without having to give up your main paycheck. Because I know some of us might have kids and houses and rent to pay, responsibilities. We need to pay for the electricity.
We can't necessarily afford to just run away and start a business. So, this is why I love this business so much. You do [music] it alongside your job until you don't. More on that later. Inside of our 9x12 method community, we've got people doing this from all walks of life with kids, full-time jobs, craziest schedules ever.
People are doing it. For example, Michael just sold 10 slots in a single day despite working a full-time job just from emailing and calling local businesses. [music] That's literally $5,000 that he made in a single day. And now, honestly, that's absolutely ridiculous. I honestly don't know how he did that.
That's literally $5,000 in a [music] single day. But nonetheless, everyday people are doing this successfully and usually selling out their card on average within their [music] first month. Now, to make this as easy as possible to follow, I'm going to walk you through a chronological flow from start to finish so you can literally imagine how this would fit into your life. First, [music] I'll explain how to pick an area and set up your offer. Second, we'll talk about how to price your card and structure your ads.
Third, how to create a list of businesses that you should be reaching out to. Fourth, [music] how to reach out and exactly what to say to them, even if you're not a salesperson, cuz you don't have to be. I'm a damn introvert and I did perfectly fine with this. Fifth, how fulfillment works. That way, you're not licking envelopes in your kitchen because you don't need to do that.
And finally, how to rinse and repeat this so it can eventually actually take over your paycheck. So, let's start at the very beginning and remember, you're keeping your job while you do this. Think of it like a project you're going to run in the background of your life for the next few weeks to add a little bit of income on top of your income. So, step one is when we discover the treasure map. In this step, we'll be analyzing and choosing our target market area.
[music] And a big mistake a lot of beginners make is thinking that the entire internet is their audience. But that's not the case in this business. [music] In this business, you're keeping it local. You're sticking to one town. So, you're going to pick one town or a cluster of zip codes or a specific neighborhood where there's plenty of businesses that are ready to spend and earn more [music] customers.
You want a town with restaurants, salons, dentists, gyms, realtors, roofers, painting companies, cleaning companies, etc. If you're watching this video on the job, you can actually start working on this right now. Just don't [music] tell your boss. Open Google Maps and search up restaurants near me, plumber near me. see if there's a lot of volume in your area of businesses.
And you don't need a crazy amount. Don't get me wrong. There's people doing this in tiny towns, but just get familiar with the types of businesses that are clustered all around your town. You're not pitching anybody yet. You're just deciding if this is a good area to actually target.
That's step one, finding the treasure map. Now, step two is identifying the loot. What are we actually going after? In this [music] step, you'll be structuring your card and the numbers. And don't forget the numbers.
We have 16 businesses paying us $500 each. You don't have to use those exact numbers. It's your business, so you can do what you want. You can charge a penny if you want to go broke, but $500 is a very common starting point, and it's what I personally charge in my business. And most people in our 9x12 method community also charge that amount.
So, if you think about it, on your first card, you actually only have to sell out six slots in order to break even on the card. Six slots at $500 each is $3,000, which covers your entire cost because, remember, it only costs $2,900 to do the total fulfillment. Every sale that you make after that is pure profit. And that's a huge mental shift because then you're not intimidated by the big 16 number. You know that you don't have to sell all 16 ads on day one.
[music] You just need to hit that number six and then you'll feel a lot more comfortable. I'm sure you can think of six businesses right now off the top of your head that would say yes to this in an instant. There probably already businesses that send mail out to you anyway. You're giving them a cheaper alternative. So now you can start the sales process thinking to yourself, "Okay, [music] the first six ads gets me to break even, but ad number seven to 16 is my upside."
>> And that takes a huge amount of the pressure off, especially when you're doing this around a job because I know you're busy with other things. Now, step number three is devising a plan to reach the buried treasure. In this step, you'll be building your founders list of potential advertisers. [music] This is something you can do in an evening or two, just after work. You're just going to list out a list [music] of industries that would make sense for this mailer.
pizza places, chiropractors, dentists, roofers, realtors, [music] landscapers, cleaning companies, auto shops, salons, pet groomers, [music] insurance agencies, etc. Your goal is to identify solid categories, preferably the ones I just told you, but really any business that [music] just sells high ticket products. In other words, they sell something that costs a lot of money, whether it's a product or a [music] service. That being said, I've also had cafes join my card and they sell $5 coffees. So any business is fair game, but [music] on average, the higher ticket their item, the more likely it is they'll join.
Then for each category, you add multiple actual businesses in your local [music] area. So you're going to go to Google Maps, look up plumber in town or plumber near me. And then you're going to go to each website on Google Maps and you're going to collect [music] their website name, their business name, their email, their phone number, and the owner's name if you can find [music] it. But don't sweat that one. It might not be easy to find.
and just put them all on an Excel spreadsheet. And don't overthink this. You're not writing a business plan. You're just collecting a list of prospects. [music] If you can make a list of 40 to 60 businesses, that is more than enough to get a good few [music] slots sold, maybe even get you to break even.
Especially if you're willing to follow up and you use proper scripts, which is important. Many of our members do this part literally just sitting on the couch after dinner, kids running around. It's casual. It's brainless work. You just go from business to business and collect their information.
It's not that deep. And did I mention we have people winning in our community literally just from copying the scripts from the blueprint and pasting it into their emails and sending them off? Well, Michelle sold seven slots in two days [music] despite running a busy event venue as well. That's literally $3,500 in 2 [music] days. There's already 2,800 of us inside of that community.
So, if you're interested in joining and gaining access to that winning blueprint, which [music] really breaks down the business step by step, the ability to post in the group and ask questions, [music] access to live group calls and pre-made ad templates, an AI ad design generator that's also free in the community, then the link to join is in the description [music] of this video. But don't procrastinate because the price will be rising very soon once we hit 2900 members. But you're grandfathered in at the price you pay. Don't worry. So once you've collected a list of business's contact info, we're on to step four, which is where we start digging for the treasure.
[music] And this might feel premature for a lot of people because they're used to in business having to do a ton of setup. But not in this business. You can literally start making income the day that [music] you start. For example, I sold out three slots for $1,500 my first day doing this side hustle just by posting a random Facebook post. [music] This is the part that scares people until they actually try it.
So like I said, step four is outreach. And now you might be thinking, "Okay, great. I'm not a salesperson. I've never sold anything in my life, and I work a full-time job. How am I supposed to do this?"
Let me address the time thing first, and then we'll get into the conversation structure. [music] If you work a typical weekday job, like most people in our community, you can work this on a weekly rhythm. Let me explain. For example, in the mornings and evenings, you can plant the seed, send off some emails and some Facebook messages to local businesses, and then during your lunch breaks, you can make some calls following up with those businesses. [music] or you can even make some calls right after work because after 5:00 PM is a fantastic time to actually reach the owners of a lot of these smaller service-based [music] businesses.
And then Saturday mornings, you can actually go visit some of these businesses in person to try to sell them and bring the card with you so you can really sell them on it. Or you can just be an introvert like me and just keep sending emails. [music] You don't need 8 hours a day. You just need consistent, focused blocks of work. So put it in your calendar and just do it consistently.
[music] 10 to 15 conversations a week is totally doable for anybody regardless of your schedule if you just block it into your calendar. Now, the actual conversation itself is actually really simple because you're not trying to ask them to hand over their ad account to you or join a 12-month commitment to [music] something and you're really not explaining anything overly complex. So, a simple script might sound something like this. [music] Hey, I'm sending out a large community focused postcard to 5,000 doors in our town featuring locally respected businesses. is this [music] something you think you'd be interested in being featured on?
And then you shut up and let them answer. And of course, they're going to say, "Yes, I'd love to be featured on this." [music] And then that's when you explain the details, the price, where in the town it's going to, the fact that you're going to handle the entire design process and the mailing process, the fact that it's exclusive and there's only one business per industry, [music] and all the other simple details, just showing how really simple it is for them to join. They're really just paying the fee and you take care of the rest. And now sometimes they will immediately say yes even after they hear the price because the value is so tangible.
It's so clear, especially if they already pay for mail marketing. They could see that it's just so much cheaper. But sometimes you'll get questions like, "Has this worked for past clients?" And that's when it can be really helpful to be part of our community because then you can put your pin on the our local spotlight map showing that you're a partner with a bunch of people doing this all around the country. And we all share case studies about our clients success [music] throughout the community.
So you can borrow some of those case studies and use them as evidence that this works. And then over time as your own cards go out and you collect more social proof, then you can start using that. But you don't have to wait if you're part of the [music] community. Again, the link to join that community is in the description. And I've never had somebody reach out to me regretting their decision in joining.
And now we move on to step number five. We've [music] found the treasure, but it's time to inspect the loop. Step number five is closing the deal and collecting payment in a way that protects your time and diminishes your risk. The key here is to add some urgency and make it clear that there's category exclusivity. So, if another plumber joins before them, they're out of luck.
You're not saying, "Yeah, no worries. Take your time." What you are saying is, "Okay, that's fine, but we do have 16 slots. As you know, it's exclusive. [music] So, if another plumber commits before you, I can't hold your spot."
I do ask for payment upfront to officially claim your slot. You should always take payment upfront because that's how you avoid paying out of pocket for the card. Most people, including myself, take the full payment upfront to commit to [music] taking the slot. Although, some people are afraid to do that and they only take 50% upfront and then 50% once it's time to print the card. But I honestly recommend just [music] taking 100% all up front because it's not fun chasing money when you're finally ready to go print the card.
But no matter what, you sell [music] first and you fulfill second. And anybody who doesn't pay does not get to be on the card. Now, remember that break even math. As soon as you've sold out [music] six $500 slots on this card that's going to cost you $3,000, you have broken even. You're [music] covered and the rest is pure upside.
That's why this model is so much more realistic as a side hustle rather than something you're ordering inventory for or you have to waste thousands of dollars to optimize your ads for because then you're not gambling your rent. You're [music] just spending your time to make conversations and collect checks. So now we move on to step number six, which is [music] polishing that beautiful loop. In step number six, you will be designing the card and handling the fulfillment. And this is where a lot of people get caught up in their head because they think they have to be a professional ad designer, but that is not the case.
And first [music] of all, you need to make sure that you have a 9x12 postcard template put together so that it's ready to place the ads on. And lucky for [music] you, I have one to give to you. So, if you just comment template down below, I will send you the Canva template for the 9x12 postcard. That way, all you'll have to do is just drag and drop the ads onto it when they're ready to go. So next, your job is to gather the ingredients that each business wants on their ad, like their logo, their website, their phone number, their offer, and any images that they want to add to the ad.
You can either learn how to create the designs yourself on Canva, which I honestly don't recommend. It takes a lot of time. Or you can hire a designer for wicked cheap. We actually offer that as a service, very cheap, or you can use the pre-made ad templates that are included in the community. That way, all [music] you have to do is just change the advertiser's contact information.
I recommend either of the last two because time is money, but you could always learn yourself. So, once the final card is laid out and [music] each partner, each advertiser has approved of their ad, that's important. Make sure you get their approval. Then, you're going to send it off to your fulfillment partner. Obviously, I recommend us at print.
n912method.com [music] because we specialize in 9x12 postcards. So, we can get some of the cheapest rates in the US for you. But more importantly, because we handle not only the printing, but also the total fulfillment of the cards so that you don't have to touch them at all. We use the US Postal Service every direct mail system.
So, you just select the routes that you want the cards to go to. You let us know those routes and we make sure that they get there. You don't need 5,000 addresses. That's a common [music] misconception. That's the beauty of this simple model.
You're simply orchestrating relationships and connecting the pieces. You're not licking stamps and stuffing [music] envelopes in your garage. While the cards are printing, you should be communicating with your advertisers, keeping them updated along the way. And if you go with us for fulfillment, we send you a picture of the massive [music] stacks of postcards. That way, you can actually send those over to your advertisers to show them the true scale of this operation.
And then we, of course, send you tracking once we ship it off to your local post office. And most importantly, we send you a packet of extra samples of the cards that we had printed for you. That way, you can hand them out to your advertiser so they can feel it tangibly. Makes it way easier to sell them on the next card. Now, you're done with one card and you made $5,000 in profit, but you're not satisfied, are you?
That's where step number seven comes into play. This is where we find a brand new treasure map, which is repeat and referral rounds. Once the postcards end up in the mailboxes, your advertisers will start getting calls, redemptions, people will start bringing the postcards into the businesses depending on their offer. And it's going to vary depending on what your advertisers actually offered on the card. And your job is to reach out to them to gather feedback, see how things are going, and most importantly, get them on that next card and make it clear to them that they have first priority to join the next card.
You can only hold their slot for about a week. This gives them urgency to quickly renew because this plumber right here doesn't want some other plumber to now go steal their spot, so they're going to grab it again. This is how you go from a one-time side hustle to repeatable income that can truly replace your paycheck. Card one proves the concept to you and card two comes even faster because you already have a base of advertisers that are willing to re-up for next month. Card three can start feeling like butter because instead of constantly rushing to find new advertisers, you already have an ecosystem of advertisers rotating in and out.
And because of that, you've now freed up more time to potentially scale this to a second town. [music] You don't have to work on this card for quite as many hours per day. So now you can do two cards [music] at the same time in two different towns. Look at that. You see how this can scale?
And inside our community, we have plenty of people who are in the exact same position that you [music] are in. Stuck in a job, nervous to talk to business owners, but within just a few weeks, many of them are sitting on thousands of dollars in sales and thinking to themselves, "Holy how did this 24year-old doofus with an ugly looking haircut somehow just teach me how to quit my job and make my own income? I should totally buy him a beer. He deserves it." And to that, I [music] would agree.
And again, this is not guaranteed, but this just goes to show you what's possible. I mean, just take a pause and just look at all these wins that the members in our community are having. There are a couple thousand winners just like these guys in there [music] and you can be one of them next. You're not quitting your job. You're not going allin on the next thing.
You're simply running this in parallel with your current income and hopefully stacking another income on top. And then with enough time, [music] that new income can eventually take over your old income. You can quit that job and this can be your main thing without all of the risk of just quitting your job and throwing everything away. Now, at this point, most people are thinking to themselves, "Well, what if I mess up or don't know what to say?" And that's exactly why we built the community the way that it is.
Inside of that [music] community, you can post to our group of 2,800 members who are all excited to help answer questions. And you can even message me in there. You don't need to be a know-it-all. Just ask all of us how to do it along the way. And just keep repeating this to yourself.
Fall forward. You're not failing if you're learning, and we have your back. [music] And not only that, but you get access to the step-by-step course, all of the templates, live group calls, the AI ad design generator, so you don't even have to design your ads, and a bunch of other freebies. So, the link is below this video to join that if you're serious. And remember to comment template, [music] and I'll send you for free the full 9x12 postcard template, so you have a starting point.
So, big picture, you now understand what the 9x12 method side hustle is and why [music] it is such a powerful starting point alongside your job. Now, your next move is simple. Commit to running your first round. I started my very first day that this business model came to mind and I made 1,500, maybe even $2,000 worth of sales. I honestly forget in that first day.
Just start having conversations with local businesses, post in the local Facebook groups, and just [music] get things moving. And if you're ever confused about something, you can just comment on this video if you can't afford to join the community. Now, if you're ready to go deeper on this, watch this video to my right, which is a much more in-depth, over-the-shoulder look at exactly how to fill out your first card and fulfill it from start to finish. And if you want proof that this works for normal people with real life responsibilities, watch this video on my left where I interview one of our members who sold out his first card within one month despite having a full-time job and family commitments. And either way, I can't wait to watch you win.
I love you. Peace.
