How Marketers Are Quietly Multiplying Their Income (Here's the Trick)
Mitchell TeboJune 24, 202614:14
Mitchell explains the phantom agency model: stacking services like review management, AI receptionists, and chatbots onto local business clients you have.
Key takeaways
- Earning a local owner's trust is about 90% of the work, so selling a second or third service to an existing client is far easier.
- In the phantom agency model you sell at retail, pay a freelancer or white label provider to do the work, keep the spread, and own the relationship.
- Learn enough about each service to tell good work from bad, so you can replace a weak outsourcer before your client notices.
- Starter services include review management, Google Business Profile cleanup, missed call text back, AI receptionists, and website chatbots.
- The 9x12 postcard works as the front door, since selling one card builds relationships with 15 to 20 local businesses you can offer more to.

What if I told you that the people quietly making the most money in local marketing right now aren't selling just one thing? They're selling a whole stack of things. And here's the crazy part. They don't actually know how to do most of those things. And let me say that again because it sounds too good to be true.
The smartest operators I know are selling five, six, seven different services to the same local businesses, collecting money every single month, and they personally can't build a website or run an ad or set up the tech to save their life. They sell it. Then somebody else does the work, and they keep the difference. And that's the whole game. And today I'm going to break down exactly what those services are, how the money works out, and how you can start stacking them on top of whatever you're doing just to leverage the relationships you already have and duplicate the income you're already making.
So, let's get into it. But real quick, I got to be honest with you. I got to be up front. This model is simple, but it's not easy. So, if you want easy, go work at McDonald's or something.
There's no shame in it. The fries are great. But this is a real business model still. It's durable. It's been around forever.
And it rewards people who actually do the work consistently. So, if you're looking for a magic button, this probably isn't it. But if you're willing to put in some reps, this could honestly duplicate your income with little additional complexity. And now let me back up because some of you are brand new here and you have no idea who I am or what I do. My name's Mitch Tibo.
I've taught thousands of people how to make money helping local businesses with their marketing. And the thing I'm most known for is something called the 9 by 12 method. And I'll explain that in detail in a little bit later because it actually plays a huge role in what we're talking about today. But here's the thing I want you to understand right out of the gate. Most people in this whole space, the marketing space, like the side hustle space, they get stuck.
They pick one offer. Maybe they learn to do web design. Maybe they learn social media. And then they sell that one thing over and over again, trading their time for money and capping themselves out. And it works, kind of, but it's a grind.
And because every single month you're starting from zero and hunting for the next new client. And here's what almost nobody tells you. The hardest part of any of this by far is getting in front of the local business owner and earning their trust. That's the major mountain to get over. That's 90% of the work, getting their trust.
Once you've climbed that mountain with one client, once they know you, they like you, and they trust you, hopefully, selling them a second thing is almost easy. And if you do a good job, you can sell a third thing and a fourth thing. They'll keep coming back. So, the unlock, the entire unlock of this video, is that whatever you sell right now, you can stack more services on top of it and multiply your income from the same people you already have a relationship with. You don't need more clients, you need more solid offers for the clients that you've already got.
And again, don't worry because you won't actually have to fulfill all of these new services. You don't have to learn how to do web design, you don't have to learn how to do social media. You just need to know how to sell them. So, let me explain the model that makes all of this possible because this is the part that breaks people's brains a little bit, and I call it the phantom agency. You're the agency, but the work happens invisibly behind you.
So, here's how it works. You go out, you sell a service to a local business at a retail price, let's say 400 bucks a month. Then you turn around and you pay a freelancer or a white label agency or some white label software to actually do the work, and that costs you, you know, 100 bucks, maybe 200 bucks, whatever it is, and then you keep the spread because remember, you charged 400 bucks. And most importantly, you own the client, you own the relationship. The freelancer never talks to them, the software is invisible to them.
As far as the business owners know, you are the marketing person. You're the one they call, you're the one they trust, and that right there is the most valuable asset in this whole thing. And now you might be thinking, "Oh, but now I have to manage all these relationships." Remember, these are relationships that you already had for your first service. You're still managing the relationship no matter what.
Now you just don't have to do the work to fulfill the rest of the services, but you still keep a spread. And now I need to be straightforward with you because I'm not going to pretend there's zero skill involved, obviously. There's one rule, one very important rule. You have to learn enough about each service to be able to sell it and identify a solid fulfillment partner. That's it.
You don't need to be able to do the service, you just need to know the difference between good work and garbage work, and you need to know the value propositions that actually sell the service, obviously. Because here's the deal, if your outsourcer does a bad job and you can't tell yourself, your client's going to fire you before you even realize there was a problem. But if you know enough how to spot it, you can fire the bad outsourcer first and swap in a good one. And your client never even knows anything happened because it's all coming from you, remember? You stay the hero.
So, learn enough to be the quality control and learn how to sell. That's the job. You're not the technician, you're just the trusted person who makes sure it gets done right. Think of yourself like a CEO. You can even put it in your little Instagram bio.
Okay, so now let me actually walk you through some of these services because I think once you hear what they are, the light bulb's going to start going off in your head. And full transparency, I'm not going to cover every single one in this video because there's a ton and I'd be here for 3 hours. So, I'll tell you where you can get the full breakdown for all of them in a minute. But, let me hit the ones that are most exciting and honestly the easiest to explain. Then you can figure out the rest.
Okay, so the first one is online reviews and reputation management. This is maybe the simplest place to start because local businesses live and die by their Google reviews. And remember, we're talking about local business marketing here. A roofer with 40 five-star reviews beats a roofer with six reviews every single time. Even if the six-review guy is better at roofing.
So, you sell them a system that automatically asks their customers for reviews. It follows up with them and keeps the bad ones from actually blowing up online. And this is a very low-skill one to start. Software does most of the heavy lifting and businesses pay every month because reputation is never finished. And again, if you don't know how to do it, you can outsource it.
The next one is Google Business Profile Optimization. It's that little box that pops up when you search a business on Google with the map and the photos and their hours of operation. And most local businesses have one, but it's a disaster. It's usually half filled out, sometimes the wrong hours, blurry photos from 2014 or some random reviews. All you do is you go in, you fix it, you optimize it it so that it will show up higher in the local search.
And here's the beauty of it. You can literally learn to do this one yourself in like a weekend or you can outsource it. Either way, it's recurring income because it needs ongoing attention to keep working. Okay, before I keep going with the the rest of the services, quick little thing. If you're getting value out of this and you can see how this new idea can very quickly spike your income with the same relationships you already had, just take a second and hit the like button.
It really helps me grow the channel so I can keep giving away free value like this. And as a thank you, here's a picture of a golden retriever wearing a tuxedo with a carrot hanging out of his mouth. You're welcome. But anyways, moving on. Let's talk about the fun ones, the 2026 stuff, you know, like the AI-powered services.
And this is where it gets really good because this is where you can stand out from every other marketing person in your town because most of them are still sleeping on this. The first idea in this category is the missed call text back. It's a super simple concept. When a local business misses a phone call, and they've missed a ton of them because usually it's like the plumber's in the middle of working on some pipes and doesn't have the time to pick up the phone during that. So, when they miss a call, the system automatically fires off a text to the customer saying, "Sorry, we missed you.
How can we help?" That's literally it. That's the whole That's the whole thing. But for a busy plumber or a salon, a missed call is a missed customer and sometimes hundreds or even thousands of dollars that are walking out the door. So, this service basically pays for itself when they pay you to do the service, which means a tangible value, very easy to sell.
And the software runs it. You just set it up. And next, here's a big one, the AI receptionist. This is the offer that demos very well. It almost sells itself when you show it to them.
It's an AI that answers the phone for the business, talks to the customer in a real-sounding voice, books appointments, answers questions, it does all of it, all on its own, 24/7, even at 2:00 in the morning when the owner's asleep. When you show a business owner a live demo of this thing answering their call, their jaw hits the floor. And to be clear, this has been out for maybe a year, year and a half, but if you heard what they sounded like back then, you might have thought, "Yeah, no chance I can sell this. It sounds horrible." But you should listen to what these AI receptionists sound like now.
They actually sound like real people. So, give it another look. And now, let me give you a sense of the actual money here because I want you to feel how real this is. A tool like this might cost you somewhere around 30 to 50 dollars a month to run on the back end, and you can sell it to a business for 400 bucks a month probably, sometimes more. It basically replaces their receptionist, and it saves them sales when people call in after hours.
And now, I'm not promising you can charge those exact numbers. Every market's different, every business is different, every deal is different, and this is not a guarantee. But, just sit with that for a second. You're paying wholesale, you're charging retail, and it's recurring. That's the same business owner paying you every single month with a piece of software that does the actual work.
And that, my friends, is the dream. And the wild thing is, you don't have to build any of it. The technology already exists. You're just the person who brings it to the business and manages the relationships that you already have. Now, here's a similar, but simpler idea.
You can build an AI chatbot for their website. It's a no-brainer. These are those little assistants that answer customer questions in the bottom right corner. They capture leads day and night. This is a very tangible offer.
It's an easy to demo offer. Gives you recurring money, and it's really easy to fulfill. And again, if you're not techy, you can outsource it. You already have the relationship. Okay, so I told you I'd get to it, and here's where it all ties together.
Here's the best service of them all, in my opinion, though I'm a little biased. It's the one that I think is actually the best to get in front of those businesses in the first place, because it's like a unicorn. And it's so far off from the AI services I was just talking about, but that's what makes it the biggest selling point. It's called the 9 by 12 method. So, let me finally explain what that is for you, if you are new here.
It's beautifully simple. You take a large 9 by 12-in postcard, which is the biggest thing anybody ever gets in their mailbox, and you sell ad slots on it to local businesses. Usually, there's 16 slots. You charge around 500 bucks per slot, and then you print it and mail it to 5,000 homes in town using US Postal Service. You don't need 5,000 addresses, because we use the Every Door Direct Mail system by the US Postal Service.
So, it's low complexity, and all those businesses are splitting the cost of mailing, so it's extremely affordable for them. And you keep the spread as your profit. So, we're talking roughly 8 grand in revenue from selling out all the slots, and then $3,000 to print and mail it if you go with us. And we can handle the total fulfillment for you. So, you're left with around $5,000 in profit at the end of the month once you fulfill this.
And you collect all of the money up front before you pay for anything, so you So, you need any upfront capital. Literally zero. $0 upfront. And here's the part that matters for today's video. You're not a salesperson when you do this.
You're a community connector. You're literally helping local businesses get in front of their neighbors. And think about what that does for you. To sell that card, you go talk to 15, 20 businesses. You make relationships with them.
They see you as a marketing person who put together this cool community mailer. So, now when you want to offer them an AI receptionist, or review management, or a website, who do you think they're going to buy it from? The random cold caller, or the random cold emailer, or the person who already helped them? The person who already put them on this community mailer, who has their trust, who's local, and already has their phone number. You see what I'm getting at?
The 9 by 12 method isn't just a great offer on its own with a lot of profit potential, but it's also the Trojan horse. It's the thing that gets you in the room with the exact people you want to sell the advertising to. You want to sell everything else to. It solves the hardest problem in this whole business, which is getting in front of local business owners, and earning their trust. And not only does it do that, but it pays you five grand in profit while doing it.
So, as you can see, it stacks beautifully with everything else. And now if that's brand new to you, and you actually want to learn the full model, the whole thing is taught step by step inside of our school community. I'll talk more about that in a second. Okay, so now let me zoom back out. So, we've got review management, we got Google profile optimization, missed call text backs, AI receptionist, AI chatbots, the 9 by 12 method, but that's not even all of it.
Now there's web design. I'm sure you've heard of that. It's where you build or fix up a business's website. And in your case, you can just have a freelancer do the actual building. There's also short form video, where you make those little vertical clips every business needs now for social media.
There's also running paid ads, like running Google or Facebook ads for them, which is one of the higher skill ones, but it's also one of the stickiest, because once their ads are working, they never want to turn them off because it's making them money. And then there's way more services beyond that. But the point I want to drive home is every single one of these is something that a local business already needs, already wants, and will pay for monthly. And every single one of them can can outsourced. You're not the technician, you're the CEO.
You're the trusted local marketing person who brings them the solutions. You become the go-to person in your town instead of a one-trick vendor who only sells one thing and then disappears. Think about how much more valuable that makes you. And think about how fulfilling that can be for you to really turn around a local business and give them everything they need. The web designer who can also offer review management and ad management is 10 times worth the designer who only does websites because local businesses don't like to talk to 10 different people every day who are working on different services for them.
And the 9 by 12 postcard business operator who offers all these other services to the businesses that are already on their card are printing money from relationships that they've already built. So, that's the whole idea. Stack the offers, don't just pick one. But now, here's where I got to be fully transparent with you because that's just how I do things around here. I do have something to sell you, but you don't really need it.
Everything I just walked you through, every single one of these services, what to charge for it, who actually buys it, each one step by step, I just built a complete in-depth course on all of it, and it's inside our 9 by 12 method community. But if you're already a member of the community, it's just there for you now. It's not an extra charge. So, go check it out. I didn't charge a dime more.
It's in the classroom. And if you're not a member yet, joining the community is how you get the full course plus the entire 9 by 12 method training plus 2,900 other marketers doing this exact same thing alongside you and helping each other out with advice plus templates, live group calls, and a bit of free software. So, the link to join is in the description of this video. And now look, like I said, you don't need to join. Probably take what I said in this video, go research each of these services on your own, find your own outsourcers, and figure it all all yourself over a few months.
That's totally a valid path. That's probably what I would have done early on, and I respect it. But if you want it all laid out for you, right there, every service broken down, every number, so you can skip the months of figuring it out, and you can just get to selling, that's what the course is for. And as they say, time is money, baby. The link is in the description if you want it.
So, let me bring this all home. Here's what I want you to take away from this video. So, get ready to write this down. Whatever you sell right now, you're leaving money on the table by only selling one thing, whatever it is. The relationships you've already built with local businesses are worth way more than you're squeezing out of them.
There's a whole menu of services those same businesses actually need and you can sell them without knowing how to do the work. You just outsource the fulfillment. You keep the margin and you own the relationship. You don't lose that relationship. And the 9 by 12 method is one of the best ways to open that door in the first place while still paying you $5,000 profit to walk through the motions.
That's the whole model. It's becoming the trusted marketing person in your town and stacking real services that businesses actually pay for month after month. While everybody else is out there chasing the next shiny object, you can quickly build something boring and profitable. And boring businesses are the ones that make people wealthy and are resistant to the AI apocalypse. And now if you're not ready to join our community yet, totally fine.
Go watch this video here where I break down the 9 by 12 method from start to finish so you really understand the front door before you build the whole house. Either way, love you. Peace.
